PRE-natal Classes for Infant Massage
Infant Massage Instruction Pre-natal Classes:
As with most infant massage instruction classes, the techniques are taught over five, weekly, one hour sessions. This helps keeps the new information at a comfortable level for the massage-giver; and allows time for practice during the week.
Here at Baby Steps, we teach prenatally for the following reason: it is most optimal to for parents to be massaging their children from day one. Infant massage has been scientifically proven to aid healthy development on many levels – specifically optimising healthy weight gain; digestive patterns; sleep patterns & bonding in those precious, early months. In my experience teaching, the average mother isn’t ready to leave the house and hold a designated appointment time, much less be able coordinate that time with a group of other new mum’s, until baby is at the three-four month old mark.
To prepare you in the months leading up to birth, I have found it most beneficial to attend workshops in the 2nd month of the 3rd trimester. I bring life-like demonstration dolls to each session for you to practice techniques on during the class. I recommend that you spend time each week practicing what we have learned so that when it comes time to massage your baby, muscle memory has a better chance of kicking in.. During each session we cover a new area of the body, recap the previous techniques and work through any concerns or difficulties that may have been experienced in the week’s practice.
We also hold mini-workshops during these hourly sessions, covering what we’ve found to be the most commonly asked questions, and to simplify topics that tend to overwhelm parents by marketing companies offering fancy versions of all in sundry of the wide array of products they convince you you 'need'. These sessions will provide you with clear, logical information to help simplify some of the smaller, yet important decisions that you may not have thought of prior to getting pregnant (such as nappy choices, carrier VS pram etc.).
These workshops teach life-long skills, empowering parents and care givers to proactively support healthy development and growth. Infant massage has been proven to aid healthy weight gain & immune function; ease teething and digestive distress such as colic; improve bonding, communication and sleep patterns; support healthy development of the myelin sheath (nerve fibre casing), plus much, much more!
